I am new to the area and praying for a new home church. New Year's Day I thought it could be Bayside. I was feeling so good that day and I greeted the greeter wearing black, "Happy New Year!", she seemed surprised. I wondered but just shrugged it off. By the door inside the main area, a guy was handing out bulletins, he didn't even smile and seemed hesitant(?) to hand me one. I don't understand, it's New Year, why are the people so cold? Worship was good and I forgot the flaws then someone came in late, tapped me which startled me. I did not know how long they were there because I was so focus on the worship. I sat down to let the couple pass. When it was time to greet each other, I approached the couple and said, "Happy New Year!" and extended my hand. The woman stood up, hid her hand and extended her shoulder saying, "No, no, I have a cold!". Her stance and attitude was angry. I was puzzled. Then right in front of me she shook the hand of the person in front! Then it dawned on me I am not white! I am Asian who looks Hispanic because I have Spanish blood! Is that the reason why? First time to experience racism and that was in Bayside of Citrus Heights Church on 2017 New Year's Day! I wanted to go out right away but the Pastor was already preaching and the preaching was good. The topic was about taking risks (attending a cell group) so that you could be accepted and not rejected. How ironic. I do not want to write this, I hope this is not a representation of what the church really is.

  • I was a little hesitant to visit this church after reading the review that someone else felt people there were racist. I've never experienced that before and wasn't too keen on having church be my first place to witness it. Nevertheless I felt God calling and I was looking for a home church. I was a late person but there was a group of people to greet me when I walked in and direct me to the right area, than another came and greeted me and asked if I wanted help finding a seat. Still I was worried about the racism then I was able to take a look at the population. It is a big mixing bowl with Hispanic, black, white and blended families. The main pastor seems very approachable and I feel like I could call this my home church. After filling out a first timer card, I got an email and a personalized hand written card in the mail, thanking me for coming and hoping I return. I think if you are looking for a small church to become your family this would be a good place!!
